He’s headlined one of the biggest events in UFC history and been featured on American broadcast television but tonight Jake Shields may face the most important bout of his career. He’s fighting Brian Foster for a shot at the World Series of Fighting world title and a loss may send him spiraling down and out like his WSOF peer Jon Fitch.
So perhaps you can forgive him, and the MMA media, for looking past Foster and asking Shields what he makes of controversial WSOF champ Rousimar Palhares who’s fresh off hurting Fitch with a knee bar.
MMA Fighting got the goods,”His advantage is that he goes out there and tries to break your leg, which is terrible if you’re fighting him,” Shields said. “But it makes it a lot more realistic and a lot deadlier in a fight when a guy is trying to snap your leg and knee in half. It makes you want to tap. You can call it dirty, but it is a fight. People are trying to knock him out; he’s trying to seriously hurt you.
“I’ve never faced a guy with leglocks that do serious damage like that,” Shields said. “He’s really good at grappling, but I’ve faced a lot of the top grapplers, so it’s nothing I’m not used to.”
Shields submitted Ryan Ford in his WSOF debut and now he faces fellow submission ace Brian Foster. Expect Shields to dominate position for the decision.
