UFC 182 is about 10 days away, and Daniel Cormier will look to dethrone Jon Jones as the UFC’s light heavyweight champion in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cormier is undefeated in his MMA career and is 2-0 at 205 lbs, and his second victory came against Dan Henderson at UFC 173 in May.
With Cormier having blasted Patrick Cummins in predictable fashion, he needed another challenge to really provide reason for him to be considered a title challenger. Dan Henderson soon became available after he rallied to KO Mauricio Rua in Brazil. It seems laughable now and it was probably laughable then, but LHW isn’t a deep division and Hendo beat a top 10 opponent. The two-month turnaround for Henderson, now post-TRT, gave him quite literally only a puncher’s chance to upset Cormier. He weighed in at 199 pounds, which is anywhere from 60-80 pounds lighter than Gleison Tibau’s walking weight, and Cormier ragdolled him. The fight was punctuated with a rear-naked choke that put Hendo unconscious right in front of Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan.
