The preliminary action from UFC Fight Night: Machida vs Dollaway is over and the action was solid with a very excited crowd in a very hot building.
In the “featured prelim” bout, Marcos Rogerio de Lima beat Igor Pokrajac by landing some stopping power shots as the two men flurried against the cage. Pokrajac dropped and the referee was forced to jump in and make the save as Pokrajac was covering up and not defending himself adequately.
Renato Carneiro had a very impressive showing in his UFC debut, roughing up Tom Niinimaki and finishing him in the second round. It was a rear naked choke with body triangle that he used to finish Niinimaki off.
Darren Elkins was as tough as ever, making Hacran Dias earn every bit of his decision victory. Dias did very well for the first two rounds, clearly giving himself a lead on the scorecards. An exhausted Elkins told his corner he was gassing before the third and final round, but still went out and had his best round. It wasn’t enough, however, as Dias took the unanimous decision 30-27, 29-28 x 2.
Yuta Sasaki was unable to come through with a follow up to his impressive UFC debut. Leandro Issa controlled the fight throughout before sinking in a choke in the second round to pull off the victory.
It appeared that Tim Means had earned an easy decision victory over Marcio Alexandre Jr., beating him up on the feet and working some good ground and pound, but judging can never be counted on to come through with the sensible call. Somehow a clear Means decision became a close call with one judge managing to score the fight 29-28 for Alexandre. However, the other judges got it for the right guy, giving him the win 29-28 on both cards.
The night’s action got started with a shocking comeback as Jake Collier wasn’t able to put Mario Miranda away with a deep looking choke in the last minute of the first round before Miranda landed a head kick and follow up punches that got him the stoppage win one second before the round came to an end.
