After 3 years and 11 fights at 145 lbs, Dustin Poirier has decided to move back up to the lightweight division. Currently the #6 ranked featherweight, Dustin Poirier has been competing at the weight class since he made his UFC debut in 2011.

As he announced the news on his twitter account, ‘the Diamond’ will head back to 155 lbs, where he has competed earlier on his career, up until his WEC days in 2010. The 25-year-old seems to be filling out his 5’9 frame and says that he now walks around at over 180 lbs.

“You have no idea! Brutal”, he said as about the weight cut to featherweight.

Dustin Poirier’s last bout was a TKO against Conor McGregor last September, which put a halt to his 3-fight winning streak. He will look to get back on track as he competes in a new weight class which conceivably wouldn’t have such a taxing weight cut.

He also spoke about it with MMA Fighting:

I’m big. The cut made me hate the process of getting ready for a fight. I was focused on how to make weight instead of how to beat my opponent. It’s sucks to drop out of the rankings, but it has to be done. I’m 180 right now and in great shape. I’m excited to reintroduce myself at a more natural weight.
