One of the most recent Ultimate Fighter winners got the job done on the UFC 181 prelims. The other is probably still trying to figure out what state he’s in.
Corey Anderson, who emerged as the TUF 19 light heavyweight winner, faced late-replacement Justin Jones in the middle of the prelims. Jones, who normally fights as a middleweight, put up a decent performance but couldn’t keep Anderson from taking him down. The striking wasn’t totally one-sided, but it was clear that Anderson was getting the better of it as well. He couldn’t get a finish, but Anderson did take a unanimous decision victory with two 30-27 scores and a 29-28 card.
In the other bout, TUF 19 middleweight winner Eddie Gordon met TUF 17 semi-finalist Josh Samman. Gordon worked a takedown-heavy game and was in control over most of of the first half of the fight. Then he wasn’t. Samman scored with a perfect switch kick, hitting his shin right on Gordon’s button and knocking him out instantly. Samman was celebrating before Gordon even hit the mat, with good reason. It was one of the nicest knockouts of 2014, and virtually guaranteed Samman a performance bonus. The finish came at 3:08 of round two.
