Tyson Fury dominates Dereck Chisora en route to a tenth round stoppage

Tyson Fury won his first bout with Dereck Chisora via a wide decision in 2011. The two met in a rematch tonight in London. As wide as the first fight was, tonight’s rematch was infinitely more lopsided.

From the opening bell, Fury was able to keep the fight at the range he wanted and could have used no more than a soft jab to won if he’d wanted.

Chisora rarely got inside on the much taller Fury, getting popped with jabs and the occasional straight. When he did get inside, he was quickly tied up by Fury, keeping him from getting any offense going.

While that was bad enough to start the fight, Chisora seemed to lose all interest in being in the ring as the fight went on. As his face began to swell and cuts began to form around his eyes he became less and less receptive to instruction in the corner and threw fewer and fewer punches while Fury remained on the move, fighting a smart fight and winning every round with ease.

The crowd turned on the fight after a few rounds, expecting a more heated brawl given the “bad blood” storyline and many seats emptied as the fight went on. The reaction did not sway Fury, however as  he stuck to the script and popped away at Chisora’s face.

After the tenth round of punishment, Chisora went to his corner and stood, head down, looking at the corner rather than getting on the stool. At that point, his corner decided that enough was enough and called off the bout.

The win puts Fury in position for a WBO title fight against Wladimir Klitschko (the bout was a title eliminator). However, Klitschko will probably fight Wilder in the United States. But Fury could get that fight by some point in late 2015.
