Pacquiao seems ready for Mayweather based on his post-fight comments:
And read on for more details in our round by round live trimming results:
Round 1: Lot of movement from Algieri to start, but it’s the kind of movement his critics decry – more running on the outside with very little engagement. When they did engage, it was consistently Pacquiao who got the better of it. Nohitng huge landed on either side, but this was easily Pacquiao’s round. 10-9 Pacquiao
Round 2: Pacquiao has success finding Algieri again and gets a knockdown in the corner, though Algieri felt it was a slip. I can certainly see his argument, but the ref’s call is what it is. 10-8 Pacquiao
Round 3: Very defensive round from Algieri, who stays outside of Pacquiao for most of the round, throwing little. Pacquiao doen’t land a ton himself, but he does land the harder shots. So far Algieri, normally a high volume puncher, is not letting his hands go at all. 10-9 Pacquiao
30-26 Pacquiao after 3
Round 4: Once again, Pacquiao considerably out lands the purely defensive minded Algieri, easily taking the round. In the Algieri corner, they’ve been talking about something happening after round 4. If they want to be in this fight, that better start happening now. 10-9 Pacquiao
Round 5: Interestingly, Algieri does indeed start opening up and he does indeed start connecting more. Pacquiao responds, and I think lands the better shots to take it, but this is a close round and one Algieri can feel good about. 10-9 Pacquiao, but closer
Round 6: Much like round 1 against Provodnikov, this is a disaster of a round for Algieri. A hard Pacquiao hook sends him tumbling down for a knockdown, and though he gets up, he finds himself under a swarming attack in the corner and knocked down a second time. Again, Algieri calls it a slip, but again, it’s officially a knockdown. 10-7 Pacquiao
60-51 Pacquiao
Round 7: Algieri back to boxing here, finally getting that fast jab working. He also mixes in some solid body shots and connects at times. Pacquiao has his own more powerful and effective offense going, but again, Algieri is at least in it. But he needs to be more than in it if he wants to win. 10-9 Pacquiao
Round 8: Pacquiao is having absolutely no trouble getting inside here and hurting Algieri. Despite the reach advantage and the normally solid jab, Algieri just can not hold Pacquiao at bay. This is beginning to feel like there is just absolutely nothing Algieri can offer. 10-9 Pacquiao
Round 9: Another huge round for Pacquiao who drops Algieri twice again, this time with no controversy at all. He swarms Algieri and comes inches from finishing him, but Algieri shows great fortitude to stay in it. Still, he’s getting destroyed. In the corner, Tim Lane swears Algieri is right where they want to be and will get the knockout in round 10 or 11. I am skeptical. 10-7 Pacquiao
90-76 Pacquiao
Round 10: Algieri goes down AGAIN. What else is there to say at this point? 10-8 Pacquiao
Round 11: Amazingly, Algieri is not completely out of it, having rare moments of success. Certainly not enough to take the round, but he keeps showing that heart and grit. Tim Lane in his corner seems to think he’s about to get the KO, but again, I can not support that idea at all. 10-9 Pacquiao
Round 12: Pacquiao stays active despite being miles ahead on the scorecards – he’s going for the kill. Algieri evades well, and does an admirable job trying to turn things around, but as has been the case all night, Pacquiao just lands the better shots. 10-9 Pacquiao
Final score: 120-102 – an insane score.
