Fabricio Werdum won in impressive fashion on Saturday night in Mexico, coming from behind and landing a perfectly timed flying knee that knocked out Mark Hunt. He won the interim heavyweight title in the process, and shortly after the bout, Rafael Cordeiro spoke about the legitimacy of the title.
The UFC has stated that they may strip Cain Velasquez of the title if he’s not ready by March, and Werdum’s coach isn’t that confident that the champ will be ready by then:
Oh, he’s the champ. He is the champion. Nobody knows if Cain will be able to fight in March. I got the same injury as Cain, and recovery for me was 8 months. Everybody knows how hard it is when you need to fix ligaments. I don’t think in 3 to 4 months, he can recover. But I wish he does recover for sure, because we want this fight.
