World Series of Fighting 15 results: Branch KOs Okami, Gaethje beats Guillard and Aguilar retains

Jessica Aguilar went out to defend her spot as the world’s top 115 pound female mixed martial artist, taking on Kalindra Faria at World Series of Fighting 15.

it was a fairly entertaining five round fight that saw Faria arguably take two of the five rounds. Aguilar was the better fighter for the duration of the fight, but Faria was able to score with some nice strikes, including some sharp elbows.

In the rounds that Aguilar won, she was able to avoid the pressuring style of Faria, either countering her takedowns or landing solid punches of her own.

Melvin Guillard took on Justin Gaethje in a catchweight bout following Guillard badly missing weight.

The two men stood more or less toe to toe and threw huge strikes for the duration of the three round bout. Gaethje looked to be able to land more effectively throughout but Guillard was game and kept returning fire while absorbing the bombs of Gaethje.

In the end it was Gaethje taking the victory in a very entertaining fight. The judges scored it a split decision 29-28 Guillard, 29-28 Gaethje, 30-27 Gaethje. The Guillard scorecard makes no sense, but the right man got his hand raised.

The main event saw Dave Branch face Yushin Okami in a middleweight title fight.

Throughout the fight it was Branch who was able to win in the stand-up, which was unexpected by almost everyone. In round four, Branch caught Okami with a big punch that dropped the former UFC title challenger. Branch followed him to the ground and landed a flurry of punches to the defenseless Okami that got him the TKO win.
