Kelvin Gastelum was looking for the biggest win in his career at UFC 180 when he squared off with Jake Ellenberger.
The two men came out and stood at distance in the first round before Ellenberger landed a hard right hand counter that caught Gastelum’s attention. A few minutes later he landed another big shot and Gastelum responded by charging forward and scoring a takedown.
They would end up back on the feet and Gastelum would start to get in with his own punches.
Ellenberger went for a takedown with a rear waistlock and Gastelum quickly spun out, had a front headlock and swung around to take the back. From there, Gastelum locked in a deep rear naked choke and got the submission victory.
Gastelum has looked better every time out and there’s no denying his place among the welterweight elite with a great finish of a tough fighter like Ellenberger.
