UFC 180: Hunt vs Werdum prelim results: Perez and Rodriguez take decision victories

As the UFC 180 prelims on Fox Sports 1 continued, they saw Alejandro Perez and Jose Quinonez hook up in a fight that was marred by some controversy. Quinonez landed what appeared to be a blatantly intentional headbutt to the face of Perez in the third round of a very close fight that led to John McCarthy deducting two points. Quinonez appeared to win the third round of a bout that Bloody Elbow had tied up after two, but a 10-9 round for him became a 9-8 round for Perez because of the deduction.

It still didn’t totally decide the fight as the three judges scored it for Perez by scores of  29-26, 29-26, 28-27, so he’d have taken it even without the deduction.

In the final preliminary bout, Yair Rodriguez defeated Leonardo Morales by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). The fight saw some nice back and forth action and the crowd was very into the fight from the opening bell, lending it a bit of an exciting atmosphere.

In the end it was Rodriguez’s varied attack that allowed him to take the decision.
