Holly Holm fighting at UFC 181 was one of the most anticipated UFC debuts since the beging of their promotion of women’s MMA. Holm was set to face Raquel Pennington at the December 6 event in what was likely step one of setting up a potential showdown with Ronda Rousey, but her debut will now have to wait.
Holm has suffered an undisclosed injury and is out of the bout. The injury was first reported at MMAByNeko and was then confirmed by both Bleacher Report and MMA Fighting.
Holm is one of the best female boxers in history and has made an impressive transition to mixed martial arts, piling up a record of 7-0 with only one of her opponents not falling to strikes in the distance.
With new and exciting options limited for Rousey, Holm has become the most realistic “big new fight” option in a world where people have still clung to the idea of a Gina Carano return to MMA.
