Hopkins vs. Kovalev: Live fight online coverage with live streaming results

Saturday November 8, Bloody Elbow presents live fight coverage of Sergey Kovalev vs. Bernard Hopkins. HBO World Championship Boxing Hopkins vs. Kovalev airs live on HBO this Saturday, November 8. The show has a fight time of 10:45 p.m. ET / PT. Bloody Elbow will have live fight coverage, including results and discussion.

As we draw closer and closer to the opening bell, this is increasingly looking like one of the most fascinating fights of 2014. Bernard Hopkins has long passed the point where he has anything to prove, and he’s also long passed the point where you should count him out of a fight – 49 years old or not. On paper, the veteran certainly seems like fodder for Kovalev – a big name for the fearsome Russian to knock into oblivion. And when the bell rings tonight, that may indeed be what happens. But it’s likely B-Hop has a few tricks up his sleeve, and has a plan in place to deal with the big (BIG) power of Kovalev. What exactly are those tricks, and will they work? Well that’s for Hopkins to know and us to find out – tonight.

Bernard Hopkins vs. Sergey Kovalev round-by-round coverage
Round 1: Hopkins throwing a few upstairs and circling, he clearly wants to stay at distance and choose when to engage and then get out of there. They get in close and exchange punches with Hopkins actually landing a couple as they separate. Hopkins down on a right hand. Hopkins gets up and is continuing and looks okay but Kovalev has his confidence going now. Hopkins competitive through the end of the round but a 10-8 Kovalev round.
Round 2: Hopkins is hesitant to really let his hands go and Kovalev is looking to clip him but it’s settling back down into the normal rhythm from the first round pre-knockdown. Kovalev throws a nice combo and Hopkins doesn’t do much at all that round. 10-9 Kovalev makes it 20-17 Kovalev.
Round 3: Hopkins with a trip and Kovalev has to get up off the canvas after the foul but nothing really doing. Hopkins with a good left but Kovalev with a better right hand. Hopkins is trying to pick his spots but Kovalev flurries hard to end the round and Hopkins was on his way down but was saved by the bell. 10-9 Kovalev.
Round 4: Kovalev stalking and then he lands a very hard flurry of punches and Hopkins is pinned in the corner. Hopkins lands one nice shot as he gets out but it’s another Kovalev round. 10-9 Kovalev. 40-35 Kovalev.
Round 5: This is the rhythm of the fight now. Hopkins is circling, Kovalev is stalking, Kovalev throws a few punches, Hopkins maybe throws a single shot. Kovalev lands a hard punch and then another both as Hopkins tried to clinch. Kovalev follows up with a hard flurry of shots and that’s enough to win him the round. 10-9 Kovalev. 50-44 Kovalev.
Round 6: Kovalev just needs to not tire and he should cruise here, or maybe pick up a knockout if the opportunity presents itself.  Another round, fought exactly the same. 10-9 Kovalev
Round 7: Hopkins landed a few good shots including the best right he landed all night at about the halfway point. Kovalev went right back to doing exactly the same as he’d done the rest of the fight, but Kovalev might have a small cut. Still another Kovalev round.
Round 8: Kovalev stings him again, Hopkins is trying to throw more as this is the later part of the round and maybe Kovalev will have tired, but not really, instead he’s just beating up Bernard. 10-9 Kovalev.
Round 9: Hopkins landed one nice right that round. Kovalev won the round. This is getting repetitive. 10-9 Kovalev
Round 10: This was the best round of the fight. Hopkins had a few moments where he landed some heavier punches, but Kovalev always returned fire with his own big shots and still clearly won the round. 10-9 Kovalev
Round 11: Kovalev round, same as every other. He’s landing better shots, he’s controlling the action and Hopkins isn’t doing anything. 10-9 Kovalev
Round 12: Hopkins rattled Kovalev with a hard shot, he tried to follow up but Kovalev turned things around quickly. Bernard took a horrible beating for the last half of that round. I’m shocked that Hopkins survived to the final bell, but he did. An amazing thing itself.
Official scorecards: 120-107, 120-106, 120-107. Sergey Kovalev wins by unanimous decision.
