Cris “Cyborg” Justino is out of her planned bout at Invicta 10 after suffering a serious leg injury. The news was announced on the Invicta 9 stream on UFC Fight Pass, a far more negative “major announcement” than anticipated given the promotion’s hyping of breaking news during the show.
The Invicta press release read, “Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino (12-1) injured her left ankle, suffering a full thickness rupture of the anterior talofibular ligament.” On the broadcast they said that it was not clear yet if she would require surgery, but that’s a serious injury which will require some significant recovery time.
Cyborg has not fought in MMA since July of last year, so we are likely looking at more than a two year layoff for her, and she was looking to cut to 135 in an attempt to possibly gain positioning as a challenger for Ronda Rousey’s UFC crown.
The new main event for the card will be Michelle Waterson defending her atomweight title against 8-2 Brazilian fighter Herica Tiburcio.
