Cub Swanson is on a six fight win streak that started in January of 2012. It’s a streak that put him into the title challenger discussion, especially after his win over Jeremy Stephens in June.
Swanson’s name has fallen by the wayside in recent months. In large part because Conor McGregor has been dominating opponents and talking himself up as well as anyone in the sport.
It’s never been more clear than in recent weeks that McGregor is “the UFC’s guy” when it comes to where they feel the money is at 145 pounds. He was in attendance for Jose Aldo’s title defense against Chad Mendes. As well as holding one of the more unusual Q&A sessions with Brazilian fans. Everything last weekend seemed to play to the narrative of McGregor as the great rival to long-time champion Aldo.
Swanson still wants fans to know that, to his knowledge, he is the next opponent for Aldo, so long as he can get by Frankie Edgar in November.
One hurdle facing Swanson is his eight second knockout loss to Aldo in a 2009 WEC title eliminator.
The UFC has gone back on their word regarding title shots plenty of times, so nothing is a guarantee for Swanson until the bout agreement is signed.
