Fabio Maldonado rescued MMA fans who were desperate for action on the UFC 179 pay-per-view card that they shelled out $55 to watch. After a bad first round in which Hans Stringer took him down and controlled the action, Maldonado found a way off his back in round two, landing a huge flurry of body and head shots on the ground.
Eventually, Stringer was left covering up as the blows came and the referee had no choice but to step in and end the fight.
Darren Elkins and Lucas Martins put on one of the worst fights in recent UFC history, spending three rounds doing very little with basically no action to speak of. The fight was largely shredded by MMA media and fans on Twitter with the primary source of interest being a bizarre 30-27 scorecard for Martins from one of the judges.
Elkins did manage to take the win on two cards, both also 30-27s.
The first fight of the pay-per-view was Beneil Dariush against Carlos Diego Ferreira. It was also a pretty lackluster afair but one in which Dariush was able to come away with the victory with unanimous scorecards of 30-27.
