Dustin Poirier came out against Conor McGregor at UFC 178 looking to knock the McGregor hype train off course.

McGregor opened up with a wild hook kick and continued throwing a variety of spinning attacks, none of which really landed while Poirier landed leg kicks and started to slip in some solid punches.

McGregor stung Poirier with a shot around his defenses and moments later he landed some big shots that dropped Poirier. He followed up with a few heavy shots that left Poirier in no position to defend himself and forced referee Herb Dean to jump in for the stoppage.

After the fight, Poirier protested that he got hit in the back of the head, but it fell on deaf ears.

It was as impressive a performance as anyone could have asked from the brash McGregor, who had called his own shot predicting a first round knockout. It ended up taking him less than two minutes to make good on that prediction.
