Anthony “Rumble” Johnson is clearly at the high point of his career. After an initial UFC run that saw Johnson miss weight three times and get released, he found his stride after a move up to the light heavyweight division. Since that release, Johnson is on an eight fight win streak, including a 2-0 record since returning to the UFC. He is currently the #5 ranked fighter in the division and possibly only one win away from a title shot.
Bloody Elbow has now learned that the mother of two of Johnson’s children called the police and filed a police report alleging that she is receiving threats which she believes are coming from Johnson’s friends and that, in 2012, he struck her and knocked out two of her teeth.
The police report reads as followed (the name of the alleged victim has been redacted at her request):
On 09/05/14 I met with the complainant, *redacted*, at the DBPD in reference to a domestic dispute. *Redacted* advised that she is frightened by the father of their children, Anthony Johnson.
*Redacted* stated that two years ago Johnson hit her in the face and knocked out two of her teeth. Since that incident she has had several other verbal altercations with Johnson. *redacted* has only reported one of the incidents to the police.
Most recently, Johnson went to *redacted*’s house and tok their dog on 08/24/14. *Redacted* also advised that she keeps receiving calls and text messages from an unknown male subject threatening her. *Redacted* stated that it’s not Johnson but thinks it’s his friends.
I advised *redacted* to go to the Courthouse and obtain a no contact order against Johnson.
I provided *redacted* with a domestic violence brochure.
The alleged victim says that the alleged physical assault incident with Johnson happened at her place of employment at the time, a supplement store. She also claims that security video of the incident is in her possession. Bloody Elbow has not seen this video as of press time. And, she says she was talked out of pressing charges by Johnson at the time of the 2012 incident.
She did get a temporary injunction for protection following filing the police report.
Johnson was arrested in 2009 after an altercation with a different woman and charged with domestic violence, battery, death threats and destroying a phone to prevent the report of a crime. Johnson pleaded “nolo contendere” in 2010 to a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence for which he was sentenced to serve three years probation, community service, and was to attend domestic violence counseling.
According to a news report following the arrest, the alleged victim said “Johnson pushed her around, picked her up by her armpits and slammed her to the ground. He then put her in a headlock and dragged her up a flight of stairs.”
At the time, Johnson’s lawyer claimed that the woman was jealous and swung at Johnson first.
Johnson denied comment on the current situation when contacted by Bloody Elbow, referring us to his representation.
His lawyer, Frank Smith, issued the following statement, “Anthony categorically denies all allegations and looks forward to his court date in the civil matter, where the truth and lies will be established.”
