In case you missed it, ESPN has video from the Floyd Mayweather vs. Marcos Maidana rematch, where the current pound for pound king improved his unblemished record to 47-0. For more details, here’s a quick recap of the highly anticipated boxing match:
Floyd Mayweather did what Floyd Mayweather does best – he shut his opponent’s game down effectively and managed to dominate the fight. With a combination of footwork, defensive movement, counter punching, and clinching on the inside, Mayweather prevented Maidana from landing many shots. At the same time, he landed the cleaner punches himself, though never seriously hurting Maidana.
As the fight progressed, things got a bit ugly, including a very strange round 8 where Mayweather argued that Maidana bit him on the hand during a clinch. The home stretch of the fight was characterized by low blows, excessive clinching, and a point deduction for shoving for Maidana.
But in the end, we got the fight most analysts predicted we would get when these men first met – a pretty typical Floyd Mayweather win.
