On Saturday, November 8, 49-year old Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins takes on Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev in a light heavyweight unification title bout at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ live on HBO World Championship Boxing. However, he might have trouble getting past the NJSAC after they do their medicals on him and discover that his innards are of extraterrestrial origin.
During the media scrum at this week’s Press Conference to hype the unification bout at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Hopkins, who is 55-6-2, explained to the press that he has alien blood running in him, despite being human, and explains why he believes that and how it is a part of his modern take on life and fighting at his older age. He also hypes his big fight against Kovalev and what it means for fans and the boxing world.
“I’m human, but I’m not, “the WBA and IBF Light Heavyweight champion explained. “You are not out of this world, but you are not of the world. And the things that you are doing and why you are doing it, it’s only because you have the alien blood running through your veins, which makes Bernard Hopkins 90% alien, 10% human.” We can not make this stuff up, people. Maybe Hopkins watched “Cocoon” before picking this nickname, but when you hear the man explain it, it sort of makes some sense, in how this ageless wonder has continued to defy odds and win belts at an age that most fighters start selling counter-top grills.

In April, Hopkins defeated Beibut Shumenov to win the WBA Light Heavyweight World Championship, breaking his own record as the oldest fighter in history to win a world title, which he set in May of 2011 after defeating Jean Pascal at age 46. Kovalev comes off of the third defense of his WBO Light Heavyweight Title on HBO, defeating Blake Caparello by TKO on August 2.
