Alistair Overeem responds to Dana White’s anger over Jon Jones injury

UFC president Dana White was very unhappy with Greg Jackson, Jon Jones and Alistair Overeem when an injury forced Jones out of his UFC 178 title defense against Daniel Cormier.

The UFC boss went on The Jim Rome Show and threw a fit about it making no sense for Jones to train for a shorter wrestler in Cormier by training with a taller striker in Overeem. It was during one of those sessions with Overeem that Jones injured his knee, forcing him out of the bout.

White said that he wanted to call Greg Jackson and yell at him for having Jones work with Overeem when he (White) has determined it makes no sense.

Overeem responded to the criticism to MMA Junkie:

“(The injury was) very unfortunate,” Overeem told MMAjunkie. “This was just one of those freak accidents on a takedown. Listen, I was looking forward to that fight. Everybody was looking forward to that fight. Jon Jones was looking forward to it. Accidents happen. There’s no fault to blame.

“What is he doing training with me? We’re in the same gym. We’re teammates. We have lunch (together) and we drive around together.”

“There was no intent (to hurt him),” Overeem said. “There’s always something you can say. Sometimes it’s best to say nothing and it is what it is. That’s just my two cents.”
