Superkombat Grand Prix brings kickboxing back to the Netherlands on September 27

European kickboxing organization Superkombat returns later this month with a very intriguing card. The Superkombat Grand Prix returns on September 27, and what is perhaps most interesting about the card is the location. Set to take place in Almere in the Netherlands, this will be the somewhat rare major international kickboxing event in the Netherlands since It’s Showtime closed their doors. Long one of the hotbeds of the vibrant European kickboxing scene, the Netherlands began cracking down on kickboxing a few years ago due to its perceived ties to organized crime. Now, Superkombat brings the sport back to one of its homes, which will be great to see.

The Superkombat World Grand Prix in Almere is on Saturday, September 27. The main card begins at 9:00 p.m. local time, 3:00 p.m. ET for US fans. The show will air on Europort and Sport.ro in Romania.

Headlining the card will be Superkombat veteran Catalin Morosanu. Morosanu just scored a KO victory in August and is 3-1 in his last 4. He faces Brian Douwes, a talented Dutch veteran who has experience against big names like Daniel Ghita and Rico Verhoeven (who Douwes fought to a draw years ago). Douwes is a tough opponent here, and will provide a real test for the heavy hitting Morosanu. Other highlights of the card include a fight from the talented Ali Cenik, and a one night, 4 man Heavyweight tournament.
