In case you were wondering about the November 22nd date, originally the UFC was headed for a debut in Turkey, but it appears those plans have been scrapped and replaced with a US-based card in the Lone Star State.
Benavidez (20-4) rebounded from a shock KO loss to Demetrious Johnson by choking out Tim Elliott so badly that Elliott was literally forced to tap with his feet. He’s finished 4 of his 5 victories at 125 lbs and has held steady as one of the sport’s best non-champions.
Ortiz (14-3) is 3-1 in the UFC, and this bout with Benavidez would be his 4th of 2014. His previous 3 ended in wins over Justin Scoggins and Ray Borg and a loss to John Moraga, all of which ended in split decisions.
UFC Fight Night Austin is expected to air live on Fox Sports 1.
