Aside from the two UFC events that took up nearly all of Saturday, there was plenty of other notable MMA action over the weekend, starting with Friday night’s Titan FC 29 in North Carolina. Featured in the main event were lightweights Mike Ricci and George Sotiropoulos, both dumped by the UFC, with the Canadian Ricci more likely to potentially manage a way back back inside the Octagon.
Ricci was able to use his superior striking and reach to defeat Sotiropoulos by unanimous decision. Late in the 2nd round he was able to stun the Aussie with a head kick but he was unable to finish him. It’s Ricci’s 2nd win in the promotion, with the other coming via TKO against Jorge Gurgel.

Meanwhile, in the co-main event, ex-Strikeforce and UFC fighter Kurt Holobaugh absolutely destroyed Bellator veteran Lloyd Woodard with a big right hand, and the fight was over in just 15 seconds. It’s Holobaugh’s 2nd win in the promotion and he will be fighting for the featherweight title next, potentially against Gleristone Santos if he wins his next bout in September.
Lastly, Fight Master runner-up Mike Bronzoulis didn’t have much success in his Titan FC debut. Keith Johnson had him flattened out in the 3rd round before securing a rear-naked choke for the submission finish.
Here are the full results from the CBS Sports Network televised event, and we’ll have more on this weekend’s other MMA events in the upcoming edition of “Beyond the Octagon”.
