That Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier got into a pretty massive scrap at the press conference is obviously big news. It’ll add to the build for their fight and both men are going to pay for the brawl thanks to some heavy fines.

But this is nothing new in the world of fight sports. In fact, press conference brawls are a sort of tradition in the boxing world. Not that they’re anything to celebrate, as they’re dangerous and ugly.

All you need to know is that Jones and Cormier didn’t break new ground when a DC shove led to a brief roll around brawl.

They’re simply following in the footsteps of some of the greatest boxers in history.

Who could forget Marco Antonio Barrera cold cocking Erik Morales, Mike Tyson charging across the stage to start a brawl with Lennox Lewis, Lewis and Hasim Rahman tumbling through the ESPN set, Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier battling in front of Howard Cosell and, most importantly, Larry Holmes dive bombing Trevor Berbick from the hood of a car in the parking lot.

That one is #1 in the above video (which features Don King painfully reading lines to introduce each brawl), but let’s check out this video of the whole situation as well:

Just to put Jones/Cormier in perspective, neither man did a flying dropkick off a car earlier today.
