Remember when Joe Riggs got re-signed by the UFC a little over a week ago, and then, just a few days later, shot himself in the leg while cleaning his gun? If you were already in the midst of forgetting, this video of Joe’s wound, obtained by TMZ, might just serve as a cautionary reminder why gun owners should take extra safety measures when cleaning a firearm.

The video shows a horrific, gaping wound on his upper left thigh. Did I mention that it’s a big wound? Well, it is. The exit wound, visible on the side of his leg, was much smaller, but still oozing bloody drainage. Joe also injured his hand in the same shooting, so he’s sporting some heavy bandaging there, as well.

“Diesel” explains that his hand had a significant portion of the musculature “blown away” and that it was literally smoking. He says he intends to be healed up in the next few months and hopes for a return to action on the UFC’s big December card. As always, Bloody Elbow will keep our readers updated on Riggs’ progress as more information become available.
