The latest UFC rankings came out yesterday, and the biggest notable change coming out of the UFC Fight Night Dublin show was Conor McGregor making the top 10 of featherweight for the first time. It’s a bit surprising that McGregor, who hasn’t beaten a single ranked opponent en route to this spot, was rewarded as such, but I guess style points plays a role in all of this.
Edson Barboza also benefited greatly from a 1st round finish, as his body kick TKO led to him climbing all the way up to 9th at lightweight.
You can view the full rankings here, where you can also see the individual ballots submitted by all participating media panelists. Bloody Elbow is represented by Fraser Coffeen and T.P. Grant.
Note: The rankings were updated on Friday after UFC Fight Night: Cerrone vs. Miller. So the updates as written here reflect changes made both from Friday’s update and Monday’s.
Pound-for-Pound: No changes
Flyweight: In the Friday rankings, John Lineker and Jussier Formiga swapped 7th and 6th respectively. Ditto for Brad Pickett (10th –> 9th) and Zach Makovsky (9th –> 10th), and Louis Gaudinot (13th –> 12th) and Dustin Ortiz (12th –> 13th). After Saturday’s card, all of them were flipped back to their original spots. Ian McCall doesn’t improve his #3 ranking after beating Brad Pickett.
Bantamweight: Eddie Wineland drops to 6th while Takeya Mizugaki takes his previous #5 position.
Women’s Bantamweight: Jessamyn Duke drops out of the rankings following her loss to Leslie Smith, who was ranked 13th on Friday but dropped to 14th behind 13th ranked Raquel Pennington.
Featherweight: Prior to fighting Diego Brandao, McGregor was moved from 13th to 12th ahead of Darren Elkins after the Friday update. He’s now in the top 10 at the expense of Jeremy Stephens (11th) and Dennis Bermudez (12th). Aside from that, Nik Lentz is now 8th while Dennis Siver slips down to 9th.
Lightweight: Edson Barboza had the biggest jump in this week’s rankings, moving 4 spots up from 13th to 9th. Michael Johnson (10th), Gray Maynard (11th), Rustam Khabilov (12th), and Bobby Green (13th) were all knocked down a spot accordingly. Donald Cerrone (5th) switched spots with Rafael dos Anjos (6th) following Cerrone’s KO of Jim Miller.
Welterweight: Gunnar Nelson goes up a notch to #12 while Mike Pyle slips to 13th.
Middleweight: After Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort were tied for 2nd place, Belfort dipped to 3rd on Friday before overtaking Machida in yesterday’s update.
Light Heavyweight: Panelists can’t seem to make up their minds over Ryan Bader and Mauricio Rua. On Friday, Bader was 9th and Shogun was 8th, but those positions have since been reversed for about the 42nd time.
Heavyweight: Stipe Miocic rounds out the top 5 while Josh Barnett is now 6th.
