The next chapter in Thiago Silva’s MMA career is set to be in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Yesterday, Fight Time Promotions announced that they’ve signed the ex-UFC fighter for a late August card. In the below photo, you can see Silva signing his contract alongside CEO and co-founder Howard Davis Jr.
Fight Time Promotions also put out this official press release regarding their latest acquisition:
Light Heavyweight MMA superstar Thiago Silva will be back in the cage for Howard Davis Jr.’s Fight Time Promotions on Fri. Aug. 29th from the City of Ft. Lauderdale’s historic War Memorial Auditorium. The 12-time UFC Veteran will fight during Fight Time 20 in front of South Florida fight fans for the first time in his career. Silva, with a professional MMA record of 18-3, will fight for his former Boxing Coach – 1976 Boxing Olympic Gold Medalist – Howard Davis Jr., who is also the CEO of Fight Time Promotions.
“Thiago is a phenomenal fighter and a good friend of mine. He works hard in the gym. That being said; it’s an honor and a pleasure to have him fight for the Fight Time Promotions’ family,” said Howard Davis Jr.
Silva’s time in the UFC came to an immediate end after his February 6th arrest at his home in Oakland Park, Florida. He’s been charged with aggravated assault and battery after an alleged altercation with his estranged wife led to an armed standoff with the local S.W.A.T team. Silva is currently out on bail and the restraining order filed by Thaysa Kamiji has since been lifted. You can read the full details on Silva’s initial arrest (plus follow-ups) on our StoryStream.
Notable fighters who have competed in Fight Time Promotions include Vagner Rocha, Wilson Gouveia, and Steve Mocco. So all things considered, this is probably FTP’s most prominent signing, although this opportunity obviously only came about given the circumstances surrounding Silva’s arrest and subsequent UFC release.
