Brandon Vera’s time with the UFC has come to an end according to a report at Fox Sports.
Vera has been a part of the promotion since Ultimate Fight Night 2 in 2005, compiling an 8-7 (1 NC) record in his time in the Octagon. After reeling off wins in his first four UFC bouts, capped off with a win over Frank Mir, many felt that he would be a staple of the title picture. Something Vera played into as he declared that he would eventually hold titles in two divisions simultaneously.
Instead, Vera went 1-3 in his next four bouts and never showed true title contender chops.
Still, he had a very solid career, stepping in the cage with a number of the best the sport has ever seen. Vera’s losses came to men such as Jon Jones, Randy Couture, Fabricio Werdum, Mauricio Rua and Tim Sylvia.
With only one win in his last six fights, the cut may have seemed inevitable. But Vera was likely still a part of any plans the UFC had to break into the Philippines.
