Patrick Cummins says he beats Daniel Cormier ‘9 times out of 10’

Patrick Cummins made some noise when he stepped in on late notice to face Daniel Cormier at UFC 170, bringing up a time in practice when Cormier cried after losing a wrestling match in practice prior to the 2004 Olympics. Cormier would go on to tell the entire story, that being that he had lost his daughter at a time close to that training camp and then was hyper emotional during training. Cormier also stressed that the one time they actually wrestled–when Cummins was #3 in the nation–Cormier dominated him, winning 7-0.

Cummins’ taunts were fairly meaningless in the end as Cormier demolished him in just over a minute, scoring a no-doubt TKO.

Cummins was on Submission Radio and somehow managed to suggest that losing to Cormier is almost a freak occurrence, “I truly believe, anytime I step into the cage with Daniel I’ll be able to beat him. And I think, you know maybe 9 times out of 10 I can beat him right. I’m just happy that I got that one loss, that one time that I could possibly lose to him, I got it out of the way.”

Cormier looks like he’ll be a staple of the title picture at 205 for a long time, so Cummins is going to need to do some really great work if he’ll ever get a chance to prove that he was screwed over by some sort of longshot bad luck.
