In between building his own gym in Phuket, battling an esophagus condition and planning his return to the Octagon, you’d forgive UFC welterweight Mike Swick for not having time to pay much attention to the civil unrest in his adopted homeland.
However, as Swick told Submission Radio yesterday, there’s not much in the way of distraction anyway:
“Oh, yeah, tourism is key in Thailand, so they treat the tourists with much respect here, and yeah, there’s absolutely nothing. Nothing threatening, nothing dangerous, it’s just you know, what’s going on in Bangkok and how long it is going to take to get solved you know. Its not noticeable really.”
Having been in Bangkok myself during the 2010 red and yellow shirt political crisis, I find myself agreeing with Swick. Whilst there was a strong military presence, they went out of their way to make you feel comfortable, and Thai’s not directly involved with the conflict seemed blasé about the whole thing.
