A heavyweight clash between former champ Andrei Arlovski and Brendan Schaub took place in a feature fight on the main card of UFC 174 on Saturday night. It was a relatively lackluster encounter and ended up going the distance. Both fighters were clearly hesitant on the feet and that showed in the relatively mild action that took place over 15 minutes.
Arlovski was making his return to the UFC after a six-year stint away from the promotion. During that time away, Arlovski collected a 8-5 (1NC) record, including a two-fight winning streak that prompted his return. His opponent, Brendan Schaub, was looking to add to his two-fight winning streak, and add a win over a former heavyweight champion to his notch.
Ultimately, the lack of action lead to a controversial split decision that went to the returning Arlovski, who smiled in disbelief when his name was announced as the winner.
Result: Andre Arlovski def. Brendan Schaub via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
