Chael Sonnen will not fight at UFC 175 against Vitor Belfort due to a failed drug test administered randomly by the Nevada State Athletic Commission last month. He failed due to the presence of two banned substances. Brett Okamoto of ESPN has the information:
The Nevada State Athletic Commission randomly tested Sonnen last month while he was in Las Vegas to attend a UFC news conference. Results confirmed the presence of two illegal substances, Anastrozole and Clomiphene.
NSAC chairman Francisco Aguilar confirmed the test results to ESPN.com on Tuesday.
UFC officials also acknowledged the situation.
“UFC officials acknowledge irregularities in a recent random test,” the promotion stated. “Chael is planning on addressing the matter this afternoon.
According to the article, Anastrozole is used to treat early stages of breast cancer. Clomiphene is a female infertility drug. Sonnen will likely be suspended, and the article states that he will not appeal that suspension.
Sonnen was previously on TRT until it was banned by the commission earlier this year. Both of the opponents tied to his UFC 175 bout, Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort, have also had issues with the commission regarding drug tests as of late.
