Renzo Gracie on NYC nightclub brawl: ‘Everything is a misunderstanding’

Renzo Gracie, along with cousin Igor Gracie, former UFC fighter Andre Gusmao, WSOF’s Gregor Gracie, and three other men were arrested in New York City at 1:30 am Monday morning, following a brawl involving a bouncer at a nightclub. The 1 OAK bouncer suffered an elbow injury while Renzo was arrested and eventually charged with misdemeanor assault with intent to cause injury.

Renzo sent a statement via text message to MMA Fighting following his release on $10,000 bail:

“Everything is a misunderstanding,” Gracie said. “We always had a great relationship with that amazing club and all their employees.

“Soon everything will be clear.”

All arrested parties are expected to be released by Tuesday afternoon.

Video following the altercation made it appear clear that Renzo was involved in a fight, so it will be interesting to see what avenue the Gracies take to make it clear that somehow there was a misunderstanding.

We’ll bring you more updates as they become available.
