All hail the Gracie Killer. Kazushi Sakuraba has claimed the BE’s Baddest crown of Greatest MMA Submission Fighter of All Time. Sakuraba steamrolled Frank Mir in the finals, winning by a score of 70-36. Mir ends up in the #2 slot and takes home the silver medal. Rounding out the top 4 is Fabricio Werdum in 3rd place and Shinya Aoki just off the podium in 4th.
Sakuraba’s path to the finals was pretty dominant, with no one giving him trouble along the way. Here’s his round-by round breakdown:
1st round: def. Frank Shamrock 106-6
2nd round: def. Rickson Gracie 69-9
3rd round: def. B.J. Penn 54-17
Semifinals: def. Shinya Aoki 74-40
Finals: def. Frank Mir 70-36
This is sweet vindication for Sakuraba fans who felt that the Pride legend was taken out of our BE’s Baddest Greatest of All Time Tournament too early – he fell to Dan Henderson in just the 2nd round in that field.
Congratulations to Kazushi Sakuraba – truly you are the Baddest.
What do you think BE faithful, was this the right outcome?
Thank to all who took part in this tournament. Join us next time for the Greatest MMA Striker of All Time.
