Miguel Torres is a Carlson Gracie black belt who has won most of his bouts by submission, but this June, the former UFC and WEC star will be trying his hand in kickboxing. The 33-year-old MMA legend has signed on for GLORY 17’s 4-man, one-night tournament, with the winner set to move on to contend for the title.
Torres will be facing Shane Oblonsky, who will also be making his kickboxing debut after a highly successful run in the local circuit. The other side of the bracket will have even stiffer competition with Gabriel Varga (23-2) taking on Thai star Yodkhunpon Sitmonchai (83-21-1).
It will be part of the Spike TV broadcast on June 21, which leads up to the promotion’s pay-per-view card that night.
Just a few short weeks after this GLORY stint, Torres will be returning to MMA as he competes in an 8-man ‘Battle Royale’ for Rebel FC in Singapore. It will be 2 tournaments in 2 sports, all in less than 2 months for Torres as he continues to try and reclaim some of that luster he once had.
