Announced at Glory 16 Denver today was a rematch from one of the best kickboxing fights of 2013. Coming up in the Heavyweight division it will be Rico Verhoeven vs. Daniel Ghita II. This highly anticipated rematch will take place on the Last Man Standing PPV Saturday June 21 live from Los Angeles. The winner will be crowned the Glory Heavyweight champion.
These two men first met in the finals of the Glory 11 Chicago Heavyweight tournament. That incredible fight capped off the first Glory show on Spike TV and was won by the underdog Verhoeven in a great Cinderella Story. Since that first meeting, both men are 1-0, with Verhoeven defeating Peter Aerts and Ghita KO-ing Errol Zimmerman, both at Glory 13 Tokyo.
With Gokhan Saki moving down to Light Heavyweight, the winner of this Ghita vs. Verhoeven rematch will not only wear championship gold, he will also be the undisputed #1 kickboxing Heavyweight in the world.
Also announced at Glory 16, Mirko Cro Cop will fight for the 2nd time in a Glory ring on June 21. Cro Cop will be a part of Glory 17 Los Angeles, the Spike TV show that precedes Glory’s PPV debut. No word yet on Cro Cop’s opponent. Cro Cop comes in to this fight off a controversial loss to Remy Bonjasky at Glory 14 Zagreb.
