Last night at UFC 172, Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones earned his seventh title defense. After five rounds inside the cage with Glover Teixeira he won every frame on all three judges’ scorecards. The victory also marked Jones’ 14th win inside the Octagon.
Following the fight, the UFC prominently displayed the achievement as a new record for the promotion. However, former Light Heavyweight champ Tito Ortiz took issue:
As Ortiz is set to make his promotional debut with a rival of the UFC at Bellator 120, it’s unsurprising that the UFC would look to keep his name off their broadcast. However, they do have an argument, albeit a weak one, for not including him. Five of Ortiz’s divisional victories came before the Light Heavyweight division was established. His fights up until UFC 31 were fought at openweight and in the 200 lb. Middleweight division. Even so, that leaves Tito with 10 victories at 205 lbs. Obviously, the UFC just listed the other fighters with ten wins alphabetically and there just wasn’t enough room for Ortiz on the list.
