One only has to think back to UFC 100 in July of 2009 to remember Thiago Alves, riding a seven fight win streak, standing across the cage from Georges St. Pierre, attempting to capture the UFC welterweight title.
Alves would lose that fight. In fact, he would lose four of his next six fights, ending with his March 2012 loss to Martin Kampmann. That was the last time Alves was seen in the UFC cage as injury after injury kept him out of action.
This Saturday sees an end to all that, as Alves returns to the octagon against Seth Baczynski on the UFC on Fox: Werdum vs. Browne prelims (fight to air on Fox Sports 1).
SB Nation was able to get this video of Alves discussing his time off, how he is preparing for his return and what he has been doing with his two years out of action.
