Bellator 116 went down tonight on Spike TV, live from the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California.
In the main event it was Blagoi Ivanov continuing his improbable comeback from being attacked and stabbed. Ivanov took on Lavar Johnson to determine a heavyweight tournament finalist.
The bout featured some back and forth action early with Johnson swinging for the fences while Ivanov dove for a leg lock that he was unable to finish. Eventually it was Ivanov getting a big takedown and locking in an Americana for the submission victory.
Joey Beltran defeated Vladimir Matyushenko in Matyushenko’s retirement bout. Vlad did himself proud, giving good effort from the opening bell, but he eventually wore down and had very little in the tank in the third round. Beltran found himself on the ground in position to lock up a submission and he took home the win with the north-south choke.
Adam McDonough dominated Nathan Coy to advance to the welterweight semifinals with a second round knockout.
And, in the broadcast kick-off bout, Alexander Volkov advanced to the heavyweight finals with this knockout of the year contender against Mighty Mo (gif courtesy of Zombie Prophet):
