Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino is in an odd position in her career. She has at least some claim to being the best female mixed martial artist in the world, but her 2011 positive steroid test and the fact that she is a career featherweight (though she has stated that she plans to drop to 135) have prevented her from getting the opportunity to prove it on the biggest stage of all.
UFC president Dana White seems to think that this is unlikely to change, as he told MMA Junkie when asked if Cyborg’s recent loss in a muay thai match would hurt her chances of getting into the UFC:
“The crazy thing about talking about this is there is no negotiations or anything like that,” White told MMAjunkie when asked how the loss changes his perspective on Justino. “She’s a 145-pounder.”
…White made no indication that a drop in weight will heighten the Brazilian’s chances of fighting in the UFC.
…
“She’s being mismanaged,” White said. “She’s been mismanaged since the day that this whole thing went down, and she will continue to be mismanaged right until her career is over.”
White has previously stated that if she can make 135 for a few fights, they’d revisit the topic, but he still sees fit to take shots whenever he can. So, one has to wonder if negotiations could ever really get anywhere.
