World Series of Fighting says Rousimar Palhares will defend title against Jon Fitch in July, Fitch says agreement was no later than June

World Series of Fighting saw their ninth edition go into the books last night, capped off with a welterweight title win by the always controversial Rousimar Palhares.

WSOF had announced their plans for the title before the event even kicked off, the winner of Palhares vs. Steve Carl would face former UFC title challenger Jon Fitch in July, as MMA Fighting reported:

World Series of Fighting executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz told MMAFighting.com that UFC veteran Jon Fitch will headline WSOF 11 card in the first week of July against the winner of Carl vs. Rousimar Palhares. The exact date and the host city for the card are yet to be finalized.

Fitch vs. Palhares is about as good as it gets for drawing power in the WSOF, so the promotion had to be excided when Palhares had his hand raised.

There is one small snag, however:

That’s right. Shortly after the event went off the air, Fitch took to Twitter to say that he had agreed to fight no later than June. A month earlier than Abdel-Aziz’s announcement of an early July date.

In theory, this wouldn’t seem to be a huge hurdle to clear. However, the fact that Fitch felt the need to say it — in public shortly after the event ended, no less — suggests that there may be some more difficulty than one might think.
