Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva are coaching opposite each other on this season of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil in what is the biggest rivalry in the history of MMA since the last time they used that line. It was revealed recently that the two men had not officially signed a contract for a fight at the end of the show, something of a surprise considering that a fight between the two was a given.
Following tonight’s UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Henderson 2 card, it was revealed that the fight is now planned for May 31 in Sao Paulo. MMA Fighting with the info:
The two TUF Brazil 3 coaches will settle their disagreements on May 31, 2014 at the Ibirapuera Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil, UFC officials announced Sunday night.
The bout between Sonnen (28-14-1) and Silva (35-12-1, 1 NC) was briefly linked to UFC 173 on May 24th. However, UFC officials elected to move the date back one week and stage the fight in Brazil rather than Las Vegas, NV.
There was some disagreement among media over if the fight was actually officially signed yet or not:
Either way, it appears May 31 is the target date. Unless Silva has reason to night sign the contract, it seems that things are set to move forward.
