Holly Holm is one of the most exciting names in women’s mixed martial arts. The former top female boxer in the world has transitioned to MMA with a series of brutal wins, making her one of the few potentially interesting challenges for UFC champion Ronda Rousey.
UFC president Dana White previously said that “everyone” was telling him to sign Holly Holm, calling her the “female Conor McGregor.”
However, on UFC Tonight it was reported by Ariel Helwani that Dana White claimed that a recent meeting with Holm’s reps was “not very good at all” and that the UFC was “not interested whatsoever” in signing Holm.
In addition, Helwani reported that White also said that the promotion is not in negotiations with Gina Carano. Carano’s name came up after Joe Rogan went on the radio and promised massive news in the women’s division.
Cris Cyborg as a Rousey opponenseemingly is all that remains for any sort of “huge news” in the women’s division. But even that remains a longshot at this point. So one is left to wonder if something fell through behind the scenes that nullified Rogan’s tease.
