Coming off a war against Gilbert Melendez at UFC 166, former lightweight contender Diego Sanchez stepped into the Octagon against Myles Jury on the UFC 171 main card. Sanchez was relentless as ever, but couldn’t find a way to corner Jury. Myles landed solid from the outside and even scored takedowns of his own to earn the unanimous decision victory.
Sanchez took control of the fight early in the first round. He closed the distance and controlled tied up Jury in the clinch. Jury was able to escape. Jury struggled to deal with Sanchez’s pressure through the following minutes. He stayed on the outside, avoiding Diego’s flurries. Late in the round he scored a takedown but couldn’t get anywhere with it.
Opening up the second round, Diego looked to pressure . Jury hit him with a solid right hand that stunned Sanchez then cut him open above the left eye. Relentless as ever, Sanchez pursued Jury. The pressure made Jury hesitant, but he was able to score a takedown. Sanchez forced him to defend a guillotine choke before he broke free. Sanchez was able to stand up but had blood covering his face as the bell sounded.
The lightweights worked at range through the first two minutes of the final round without either fighter finding an advantage. With two minutes left Jury put Sanchez against the fence in the clinch. Jury scored a takedown. Sanchez was active off his back, but couldn’t find a submission before the fight ended.
