The UFC Fight Night 40 lineup is nearing completion with the announcement of a new, exciting lightweight match-up between two entertaining strikers. Erik Koch, who fought just 6 days ago in Las Vegas, will travel to Cincinnati for a May showdown with Daron Cruickshank, a bout confirmed by the UFC earlier today.

Koch (14-3) moved back up to lightweight following consecutive featherweight defeats to Ricardo Lamas and Dustin Poirier. He made easy work of Rafaello Oliveira at UFC 170, winning by 1st round TKO in just 83 seconds. Koch had twice been placed opposite Jose Aldo for the 145 lbs title, but injuries to both men on two separate cards ever prevented the fight from happening.

Cruickshank (14-4) had lost 2 of his last 3 prior to facing fellow TUF 15 cast member Mike Rio at UFC on Fox 10 in Chicago. “The Detroit Superstar” rocked Rio with a wheel kick and finished him off with punches just before the end of the 2nd round. Cruickshank holds a win over Chris Tickle, which isn’t significant in any way aside from me wanting to include Tickle’s name in this post.

UFC Fight Night 40 does not have a main event yet, but at the rate the card is filling up you can only assume that it’ll be revealed shortly.
