Ronda Rousey vs. Sara McMann — Women’s Bantamweight championship
Undefeated champ Ronda Rousey stormed into the cage with her smoldering, laser-beam glare and went to work on challenger Sara McMann, also an Olympic medalist and undefeated MMA fighter. Rousey looked to swarm with strikes right out of the gate but ate a trifecta of short and sweet right hands from McMann, causing her to close range and work her specialty in the clinch.
Rousey immediately established control and drove McMann into the fence, landing a pair of heavy knees to the body and slashing an elbow to the head. The third body knee from Rousey speared directly into the liver and McMann collapsed onto all fours instantly. Though only for a split second, McMann froze in place and took a single follow-up shot from Rousey, persuading Herb Dean to stop the fight. McMann sprang back into action immediately after the fight was waved off, igniting a smattering of boos and protesting howls that persisted through Rousey’s post-fight interview. McMann was classy in defeat, crediting Rousey’s body shot and taking responsibility for the stoppage.
