T.J. Waldburger vs. Mike Pyle — Welterweight bout
Mike Pyle’s experience seemed to shine through in the first frame, as the wily veteran was able to slip most of Waldburger’s punches and nail one of his sneaky clinch trips after landing a few knees.
Waldburger connected with a pair of hard low kicks to start the second and then threatened with a leg lock when Pyle tried to catch one of his kicks. Waldburger showed noticeable improvement in his striking — specifically with his boxing, kicks and movement — while keeping the pressure on. Pyle forced a brief exchange on the ground toward the end of the frame that Waldburger countered well.
Waldburger continued to exploit his enhanced striking with a long front kick, a crisp one-two and a snapping jab to lead off the final frame. Pyle changed the pace with a pair of looping right hands, a hard shoulder strike in the clinch and a spinning back fist halfway through the round, forcing Waldburger into a bit of a desperation takedown. Pyle countered it and imposed his deceivingly rugged clinch repertoire, slicing with a quick elbow and banging a hard knee to the body, then cinching a guillotine and using it to sweep into full mount. From there, Pyle rained down destruction in the form of heavy elbows before Herb Dean, who gave Waldburger ample time to fight his way out, intervened to wave it off.
- Mike Pyle defeats T.J. Waldburger by TKO (punches), Round 3
