Daniel Cormier vs. Patrick Cummins — Light-Heavyweight bout
The 205-pound premiere for former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier unfolded just as many expected against late entry Patrick Cummins. Cummins, who claimed he’d brought Cormier to tears in past training sessions, tried a takedown, a takedown set up with strikes and a little bit of both techniques in unison to start the action, all to no avail. Cormier unwound a looping uppercut that connected behind the ear and floored Cummins, then coaxed a referee stoppage through a merciless finishing sequence of punches on the ground.
In his post-fight interview, Cormier got a few laughs when he said he was upset that Cummins was able to land two punches but went on to predict that he had a bright future in the Octagon.
