UFC on Fox 10: Henderson vs. Thomson – Live results and play-by-play of main card

There are no titles on the line, but tonight’s UFC on Fox 10 card in Chicago features relevant bouts in multiple divisions. Bloody Elbow will have live results for the entire event which begins with one fight that will be streamed on UFC Fight Pass (4:30pm ET/1:30pm PT). The coverage then switches to Fox Sports 1(5pm ET/2pm PT) for live coverage of the other six preliminary bouts. Finally they move over to the main Fox network at 8pm ET/5pm PT for the four-fight main card.

This post will cover the action for the four fights on Fox.

The co-main event is a heavyweight bout between rising star Stipe Miocic and veteran Gabriel Gonzaga. The main event sees former UFC lightweight champion Ben Henderson facing off with former Strikeforce champ Josh Thomson in a five-round fight.

Darren Elkins vs. Jeremy Stephens

Round 1 – Stephens landed a leg kick to start. Elkins had a takedown attempt stuffed. Nice uppercut from Stephens. Elkins slipped on a kick and Stephens landed an elbow from the top. And another. Elkins returned to his feet. Elkins backed him up against the cage and grinded away. Stephens got loose of him and went back to the leg and body kicks. 10-9 Stephens.

Round 2 – Both connected with rights but Stephens’ was way more powerful. Elkins dove for a takedown but Stephens just jogged away. Elkins worked hard for a takedown against the cage but Stephens fought him off. Stephens landed with a thudding leg kick. Uppercut from Stephens. Body kick from Elkins. Another big uppercut from Stephens. 10-9 Stephens.

Round 3 – Elkins went for a guillotine early in the final stanza but Stephens was able to escape. He tried to lock up another but Stephens got away again. Stephens scored with a kick and fought off another takedown attempt. Both men connected with left hooks. Elkins landed a couple of hard shots and Stephens went for a takedown. Elkins once against went for the guillotine but time ran out. 10-9 Elkins, but Stephens won the fight overall.

Donald Cerrone vs. Adriano Martins

Round 1 – Both fighters landed kicks to the body. Nice two-punch combo from Martins. Leg kick from Cerrone. And another. Straight left and a jab from Martins. Cerrone continued wit hthe outside leg kicks. Big straight left from Martins and a takedown from Cerrone. He went straight to mount but Martins went out the back door and returned to to the feet. And Cerrone just slept him with a head kick! Holy crap that was beautiful!

Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Stipe Miocic

Round 1 – Gonzaga wth a leg kick right away.  Napao with a left hook. Gonzaga with two jabs and another big leg kick. He keeps throwing a looping right that’s just missing. Gonzaga tripped him after catching a leg kick but he couldn’t jump on him in time. Step-in jab from Miocic. Gonzaga connected with a right at the same time that Miocic landed a kick. Gonzaga with a takedown but Miocic got right back up. 10-9 Gonzaga

Round 2 – Inside leg kick from Gonzaga. Left hook and big inside leg kick from Miocic. Stipe stuffs a shot from Gonzaga. The pace slowed a bit. Gonzaga is covering up but not throwing much. Miocic isn’t connecting with anything flush though. Inside leg kick again from GG. Miocic with a standing elbow. Miocic stuffs another takedown attempt, and another. Uppercut and leg kick from Miocic. 10-9 Miocic.

Round 3 – Big leg kick and a right from Gonzaga. Miocic went back to peppering him with strikes, but mixed in some body shots. Good inside leg kick from Miocic. GG had another shot stuff. Gonzaga missed with a head kick. Miocic with a few jabs. Miocic tripped him and landed a few hammerfists, but he won’t go into his guard. Big left from Miocic as Gonzaga came up and he went back down. Miocic with a few kicks to the legs and some punches and he won’t let Gonzaga up. Big hammerfists and a right, and Gonzaga finally got him into guard. Miocic opened up with more GnP. They finally get up with 15 seconds to go. Right from Gonzaga. That’s it. 10-9 Miocic and 29-28 overall.

Ben Henderson vs. Josh Thomson

Round 1 – Henderson with a punch to the thigh early. Seriously. Right hook from Henderson, but Thomson wrapped him up and takes him down. He had back control with a body triangle. Thomson hunted for a choke but Henderson defended well. Henderson stood up  with Thomson still glued to his back. Thomson finally let go and they engaged in a long clinch battle. Henderson got a takedown but Thomson got up right away. Henderson looked for a standing arm triangle but Thomson escaped. Thomson got a takedown before the horn. 10-9 Thomson.

Round 2 – Big knee from Henderson to start. Henderson clinched up and looked for the standing arm triangle again, but just settled for some clinch striking. The ref eventually separated them. Thomson with a body lock takedown and got to his back with the body triangle again, just like the first. Henderson got up quickly and Thomson was forced to let go again. Back into the clinch. They opened up their striking a bit but not for very long. Thomson caught a kick but couldn’t get a takedown. 10-9 Thomson.

Round 3 – Superman punch from Henderson right and he got a takedown. Punk’s up, but Henderson took his back briefly. They went back to the middle. Thomson’s right hand is apparently broken. Henderson clinched up and worked some knees. Thomson had a takedown attempt stuffed. Thomson’s not throwing much. Thomson got a brief takedown but Henderson got up and got his own takedown against the cage. 10-9 Henderson.

Round 4 – Henderson with a big leg kick. And another. Thomson with a power takedown. He controlled Henderson on the ground for a while, but Henderson was looking for something from the bottom. Henderson  adjusted and got up and powered through into his own takedown. Thomson got up quickly, but Henderson controlled him against the cage and landed some knees. Thomson ducked a punch and got another takedown. Like before, he went straight to the back with the body triangle. Henderson got up right away though, again with Thomson on his back. Thomson plays to the crowd. Henderson went back down at the end of the round. 10-9 Thomson.

Round 5 – Big body shot from Henderson. Another body shot, this time a knee up the middle. Couple of leg kicks from Thomson, and a right hook. Combo from Thomson ended with a leg kick that tripped Henderson. He popped right back up though. Body and head kicks from Bendo. Another big body shot from Henderson. Thomson caught a kick and pushed him down. He popped up but Thomson took his back. They battled in the clinch. Back to the body for Ben. 10-9 Henderson, and I have it 48-47 for Thomson.
